Supporting Workers
Some 300 members of Local 220 are on strike at the Mott’s apple juice plant in Williamson after contract talks broke off because of the company’s insistence on cutting pay by $1.50 an hour, eliminating pensions for future employees, and reducing 401(k) contributions. They are members of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU).
Joint Board staff, and rank-and-file members from Local 14-A at Xerox, and from the Hickey-Freeman Locals immediately launched a support campaign that has included rallying on behalf of the workers and collecting money to assist them. Here is a look at some of those who took part in a recent rally at the plant.
